Abigail North

In my remote moorland studio, I use predominantly local clays to make wheel thrown, hand decorated ceramics. If you visit my Instagram account, I hope you can see how the Dartmoor terrain and flora inspires the decoration and form of my work. I feel privileged to live in this beautiful area, and to be able to spend my time making carefully hand crafted ceramics.
I have been working for over a decade, and trained formally before undertaking an apprenticeship for a year with a local potter.  I make small batch ceramics, and a smaller number of unique bespoke pieces. Most of my work is high fired in an electric kiln but on occasion I use the alternative firing technique of raku.
I am a Selected Member of the Crafts Council Directory, a Selected Find A Maker member by @craftfestival and a member of the West Country Potters Association. Recently I have been privileged to be supported by Arts Council England on an ongoing innovative Arts Council funded project ‘Here’s to Thee’. I have regularly been selected for and participated in a number of national and international contemporary craft events, including Art in Clay, Earth and Fire, Contemporary Craft Festival and Handmade in Britain Chelsea.  My ceramics have featured in Devon Life, Devon Today, Devon Homes, Country Homes and Interiors, Country Living, BBC Gardens Illustrated, The Telegraph, World of Interiors, Ceramics Monthly, Crafts Magazine and House and Garden.
